Yes. Enter any public IPv4 or IPv6 address — from a firewall log, an email header, an analytics report or a security alert — and you will get country, region, city, ISP, ASN, time zone and proxy flags. Private ranges are identified as non-routable instead.
Country-level accuracy is typically 95–99%. City-level accuracy varies widely and is often wrong for mobile carriers, satellite links, corporate VPNs and CGNAT pools. Treat the city as a hint, and rely on the ASN and ISP fields for anything that matters.
No. The lookup only queries geolocation databases; no packet is ever sent to the address you enter, so the owner of that IP receives nothing and learns nothing about you.
An autonomous system number identifies the network that announces a block of addresses to the internet. It is the most reliable signal in a lookup: it tells you whether an address belongs to a residential ISP, a mobile carrier, a hosting provider or a known VPN operator.
